Where neighboring showpieces like NGC 253 dazzle with intense surface brightness, NGC 45 offers a far subtler allure. It is a quintessential low surface brightness spiral (type SA(s)dm), its star-forming energy spread thin across an expansive disk with virtually no central bulge to anchor the eye.
To locate this elusive target, star-hop about 10 degrees west-northwest of the magnificent Silver Coin Galaxy (NGC 253) toward the barren borders where Cetus meets Sculptor.
